Swedish history, culture and nature in a two day short break

A cycling adventure near the waters and in the forests, only 2,5 hours drive from Stockholm.
You are invited to enjoy two exciting days in Mid-Sweden, with expansive forests and an abundance of lakes.

We offer accommodation in an historical environment, locally produced meals and bike tours with breaks for food on our summer pastures with grazing animals in the forest. You will enjoy a complete experience in the magnificent nature. Elk, wolf and bear have been seen there!

Facts about this package
Utegården is a well-preserved Hälsinge farm owned by the Gisslén-Schönning family. Eleven generations have lived here since the 1700's. They run a very personal B&B in an historical environment. There are three rooms and a total of 5 beds. The standard is simple but very genuine with an old and well-preserved interior. The unique old style privy with six seats is well known.
Utegården has a thriving beachfront garden and a private farm museum.

Program
Day 1:
Short walk through the village and evening meal at the BBQ area by the beach. Display of the cultural-historical environment with its ancient paintings, the Museum and the garden with its herbs and flowers.

Day 2:
Weather permitting, breakfast is served in the lush garden under the willow tree. We enjoy the summer fragrances, the birds singing and views of the lake. Home-made bread, jams and marmalades and freshly baked cake with coffee.

Bike tour with guide to the farm's summer pasture, a 10 km round trip. At the pasture, a meal of home-made bread, cheese, mutton sausages and drinks are served.
The guide takes us on a journey through time and space with the story of how the summer pastures functioned in the old peasant society. The cows graze all around us. It is completely tranquil, and you will feel like you have been taken back into the past. A short hike through the woods along winding paths and a cycle tour home takes us back to the present.

In the afternoon you are free to visit a nearby UNESCO world heritage site, Erik-Anders I Asta (30 kms). There it’s possible to join guided tours, visit the small café and the World Heritage Centre. We recommend one of our fishing restaurants by the sea for your evening meal.
If you wish, it is possible to borrow a canoe or rowing boat for a quiet tour of the lake on a light summer evening. Enjoy the sun, which never sets!
